Award-winning actress & musician, Cynthia Erivo, is set to ‘showcase nails as a vehicle for aesthetic expression’ in her role as OPI global brand ambassador.
The Grammy, Emmy and Tony award-winning and Oscar-nominated actress, singer, songwriter & producer stars as leading part, Elphaba, in Universal Pictures’ musical movie, Wicked. OPI is global nail partner for the film – in cinemas 22 November, and is preparing for the launch of the OPI x Wicked collection.
As an OPI brand ambassador, Erivo will share creative nail looks that express herself and incorporate shades from the upcoming colour collection. The celebrity is known for showcasing long nail looks adorned with embellishments and intricate nail art.
“Nail art offers a way to express what I’m feeling, at any particular moment in time,” the actress & singer explains. “It’s an extension of the story I want to tell and an extension of who I am.
“With length, colour or design, you can show people a little bit of who you are. There’s also something really fun about being able to catch someone’s eye with nails.
“Nail art is so expressive,” Erivo continues. “You can keep your nails very simple, or you can make them very extravagant, very fun, very crazy. You can pierce them, you can put jewels on them – the scope of what you can do with nails has always interested me, and I’m excited to share my inspirations and favourite nail looks with OPI fans around the world.”
Throughout the Wicked movie, the nails of Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba character develop, beginning with natural green nails as an extension of her distinct skin colour, before progressing to longer nails with eye-catching nail art as she develops her sense of self.
The character has inspired OPI Nail Lacquer, GelColor and Infinite Shine shades in the OPI x Wicked collection, as well as a xPRESS/ON press-on style called Know Your Power: a green and black design with glow-in-the-dark colour under the nails, which was sported by Erivo in the Wicked film.
“Cynthia is an absolute force, and OPI is so excited to partner with her,” comments OPI co-founder & brand ambassador, Suzi Weiss-Fischmann.
“Nail colour and nail art offer an amazing way to showcase your personality in a way that’s joyful and unique to each individual user. Cynthia embodies this sentiment with show-stopping nail art that gives all of us a snapshot of her creativity, confidence and sense of fun.”
