Wicked content has been circulating social media and, with premieres and press tours well underway, the film’s stars have been sporting their best Oz-themed nail looks. Here’s our roundup…

Hitting the silver screen on 22 November, the highly-anticipated Universal movie adaptation of Wicked has inspired the film’s actors’ and actresses’ manicures.

The vibrant hues of the enchanting land of Oz, the spellbinding dark green shades of lead role, Elphaba –played by Cynthia Erivo, and the delicate pink colour of on-screen best friend Glinda, played by Ariana Grande, has sparked the creativity of the celebrities and their nail techs.

A special mention has to be given to the actress who plays Elphaba, as she has been channelling the character through her extreme, noteworthy manicures over the past months.

Having been named OPI global brand ambassador, the actress has the role of wearing magical manicures using the OPI x Wicked colour collection, typically created by trusted tech, Rose Hackle of @rosedoesmynails.

Here’s some of her Wicked nail highlights…

Designed to feel ‘dark, edgy and unapologetically fierce’, this manicure was worn by Cynthia for the Wicked movie premiere in Sydney, Australia. She used OPI hues, Midnight Snacc and Ozitively Elphaba, for the nail look capable of casting spells.

For the Wicked star’s trip to The Academy Museum Gala, another green-focused manicure was sported. 3D silver serpents, neon flame cuticle cuffs and red jewel embellishments only begin to describe the showstopping mani.

For the LA premiere, Cynthia turned to California-based tech, Mycah Dior behind @clawzbydior_, for these ‘Emerald City’ nails. The tech used her personal favourite shade from the OPI x Wicked collection, Ozitively Elphaba, and Witch O’Clock, topped with enchanting metallics, 3D embellishments and abstract line details.

Dior told Who What Wear: “If you look closely, each detail pays homage to her story – like the emerald gemstones that echo the iconic Emerald City, and the dark, moody accents that represent her strength and mystery. I wanted this manicure to feel like a representation of Elphaba and how she stands for all those who feel misunderstood.”

Nail tech, Shea Osei, was behind this bewitching manicure for the European premiere of the film adaptation. Having worked with the actress for over 15 years, the tech told Cosmopolitan: “I know how integral her nail looks are to her overall style and confidence.”

She explained the process of creating the nails: “I received the details of her outfit ahead of time, which was invaluable in planning a cohesive and eye-catching nail look. The result was a design that tied everything together beautifully and left a lasting impression.” The tech used shades Ozitively Elphaba, Deflying Gravity, Lady in Black, Funny Bunny, Put it in Neutral, Rated Pea-G and Bubble Bath from OPI.

Cynthia’s Wicked-ly wonderful talons dazzled in New York for the city’s premiere. The manicure masterpiece was once again crafted by Mycah Dior, who used OPI hues: Ozitively Elphaba, Let’s Rejoicify, Mod About You, Black Onyx and Alpine Snow. And it wouldn’t be a Cynthia special without extreme embellishments: green rhinestones, warped watches and eyes.

The Mexico premiere saw Erivo steer away from her usual greens, instead sporting a red-themed nail look. Once again, Dior delved into her OPI collection, using hues like Ness-ist Rose, Defying Gravity and Black Onyx, before finishing with metal spike decals and dripping blood effects.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade was a call for this extra-special nail look by Shea Osei, featuring the shades Oh For Oz Sake and I’m the Wonderfullest from the OPI x Wicked collection. The focus of this manicure was texture, as the tech shared on her Instagram that “Cynthia wanted to feel a 3D effect on her nails.” Described as “whimsical and enchanted,” the tech used 3D gel to bring the nails to life.

The actor who plays the wonderful Wizard of Oz, Jeff Goldblum, sported a matching Wicked-inspired manicure with his wife, Emilie Goldblum, to the LA premiere. The duo turned to celebrity nail tech, Natalie Minerva, who used OPI Nail Lacquer in Ozitively Elphaba for Jeff and OPI GelColor in Deflying Gravity and Black Onyx for his wife, to create a ‘shimmery elegant black French manicure’.
