Following the publication of the UK Government’s COVID-19 recovery strategy, hair and beauty businesses in England are not expected to re-open until at least 4 July.

The National Hair & Beauty Federation (NHBF) has written an open letter to Alok Sharma, the secretary of state for business, energy and industrial strategy, calling for clarification from the government that guidelines for the hair and beauty industry apply to the sector as a whole, regardless of whether stylists, barbers or beauty therapists are working in salons or in non-salon settings.

The NHBF has also addressed concerns from the hair and beauty sectors such as tougher enforcement of social distancing rules, clarification of PPE requirements and the need for financial support to continue while hair and beauty businesses are unable to trade.
