The battle for 2023’s Scratch Stars titles plays out in London at action-packed judging day

Finalists in eight of the 18 Scratch Stars Awards categories for 2023 travelled to London to show off their nail knowledge and handiwork to 20 judges on Wednesday 28 June, in the bid to top the scoreboard and be crowned a Scratch Star.
The one-day event at the London College of Beauty Therapy (LCBT) was divided into two sessions, with finalists in the Gel, L&P, Natural Nail Specialist, Gel Polish Stylist and Polish & Paint Artist categories present at the first session. All but the Natural Nail Specialist finalists had to create a nail look to a set brief within one hour, before they were ‘interviewed’ by judges to assess their knowledge, customer care and response to various business scenarios. The Natural Nail Specialist finalists were watched by judges while giving a thorough consultation to a model, before returning in the afternoon to create a classic manicure look with red polish finish.
The afternoon session also welcomed Mixed Media Artist, One Stroke Artist and Nail Stylist finalists, who created spectacular designs in the hour-long session before their interviews commenced.
Finalists in the 10 remaining categories, which include Nail Salon of the Year and The Nail Business Mentor Award, are being judged remotely on the likes of testimonials, mystery shop reports and responses to a number of questions. Explore the full list of judges, here.
