Social media has become an integral part of your business: it is a way of showcasing your work and skill, engaging with clients, building a brand and attracting new clients. But are you using your social media in the best possible way?

It can be hard to find the balance between showing personality and getting down to business, so it is important to find the line between what is ‘cool’ and what is ‘annoying’ for your clients.

A recent study by online marketplace, OnBuy.com, has discovered the digital etiquette preferences of consumers, showing what they want to see from your platform. The study showed:

  • Video clips on social media platforms are the most popular action with consumers (83%) as well as brands responding to questions (83%) and joining conversations (68%).
  • GIFs are popular with consumers on social media (58%).
  • Making fun of consumers is unsurprisingly not favoured, with 88% of consumers finding it annoying, as well as talking politics (71%) and making fun of competitors (67%).
  • Honesty (86%), friendliness (83%), helpfulness (78%) and humour (72%) on social media are huge hits with consumers when looking at brand behaviour online.
  • Being politically correct is not important to consumers, with 61% finding it annoying, as well as being snarky, with 67% of people finding it a put-off.
