Sue Davies, who scooped the Services to the Nail Industry award at the Scratch Stars 2017, has opened the doors of her salon to session stylist, Stephanie Staunton, who will be providing support and nail treatments at the premises.
Gorgeous Nail & Beauty Emporium in Bexley, Kent – a Scratch Stars award-winning salon, was opened by Sue six years ago, however after undergoing three hand surgeries in the past 12 months, Sue has had to review her role within the business.
Similarly, Stephanie – who scooped last year’s Scratch Shooting Star award for her Nailing Mental Health efforts – has been reviewing her role as a session stylist, seeking more consistency in her work schedule. “The timing was perfect,” reveals Sue. “Sometimes, the answer to a problem is under your nose!
“Steph has helped immensely while I have been unable to provide nail services, and she will hopefully be growing a permanent appointment column at Gorgeous Nail & Beauty Emporium while working around her other clients. This will support me while I change my career direction and reduce my salon work longer-term to undertake new projects.”
Speaking of the change from session stylist to salon technician, Stephanie comments: “I remember the first session job I did at London Fashion Week. I panicked because there was no time for filing, removing hangnails and no table.
“Going back to salon work two days a week and at a specialist nail bar like Gorgeous Nail and Beauty Emporium is great, and has taken some getting used to as it’s so different from session work. There’s a place for everything! There are nail desks and chairs, desk lights and space – so I don’t have to act like a contortionist. The novelty of being in a salon with clients is really fun for me and I live less than 10 minutes away from the salon, so I get home at a reasonable time and don’t have to wait months on end for invoicing.
“I’m still looking after a few celebrity clients and fulfilling any contracts I have, but this move is a sensible one, allowing me to step back from the bulk of session work.
“I’m excited to see what the future holds on my journey with Gorgeous Nail & Beauty Emporium, and with my clients, colleagues and mental health.”
