The British Association of Beauty Therapy & Cosmetology (BABTAC), the National Hair & Beauty Federation (NHBF) and the British Beauty Council have each released an online document of guidelines that workers in the hair and beauty sectors need to consider before returning to work.
“We know that the beauty industry has been hit badly by Covid-19,” comments BABTAC chair, Lesley Blair. “Our guidelines help ensure a safe return to work for our members and the beauty industry and maximise client and therapist safety during these exceptional times. They serve to reassure clients that all possible measures have been adopted for their safety.”
Topics covered in the BABTAC guide include hygiene, cleaning and disinfection guidelines for spaces, strategic planning and risk assessment, communication, how to adapt protocols to ensure client and staff safety and more.
The NHBF guide covers how business owners can recover after the coronavirus lockdown, what safety precautions they will need to take once operating, and how to take financial control of their business.
“We have worked with members, our health & safety team and other industry bodies to develop robust guidelines that show salons and barbershops can operate safely when the time comes to re-open,” comments NHBF chief executive, Hilary Hall.
“These guidelines have been widely shared with our government contacts. They will also help salons and barbershops make full use of the time available to prepare for reopening.”
The British Beauty Council has worked with industry nail expert, Marian Newman, and internationally recognised cosmetic scientist, Doug Schoon, to share guidelines specific to nail technicians, salon owners and clients. The guidelines set out processes and procedures covering four categories; hygiene, clothing & protection, dust and distancing including specifics for mobile and home salon workers.
