‘More transparent’ and with a focus on ‘clean beauty’ are just two of the predictions for the 2030 beauty sector, according to global market research & insight company, Mintel.

The company has forecast that consumers will explore the push-pull between nature and science, with huge changes to the way beauty goods are chosen and purchased.

Advances in software, hardware, apps and augmented reality will lead to this change, and we can expect to see consumers questioning the role of the beauty ‘expert’ as their own knowledge of goods increases. The report comments:

“Trust will come under fire with regard to the informational being shared and the marketing tactics employed by brands.”

What’s more, clean beauty will evolve as consumers do more research than ever before when making product choices and brand transparency spans the product life cycle.

In 2030, the report reveals that slow beauty will take over, with skincare simplified. There will be ‘thoughtfully-crafted products that encourage consumers to pare back routines’ and data will be used further to develop a better understanding of customers.

The focus on sustainable manufacture will only continue to strengthen as we head into the next decade, with Mintel’s experts commenting: “Calls for a green recovery from the pandemic are amplifying and consumers are looking to brands to safeguard their health alongside that the planet.

“Trust in science has increased, and we will see brands, empowered by this new acceptance, play with lab-grown ingredients, revolutionise functionality and reduce environmental impact.”
