Disney villains inspired the spring/summer 2019 collection by The Blonds, encompassing mystery, seduction and intrigue. For the New York Fashion Week showcase, The Blonds called upon CND™’s Design Lab Team to create striking and seductive nails that commanded a sense of danger.
The collection
The Blonds sought to unravel the complexity of Disney’s most iconic villains in its SS19 runway show. Phillipe and David Blond translated the flawed symbols in a bold, luxurious way – taking the tragic heroes of dark fairytales and putting them centre stage.
“This partnership is everything and we are so excited to be part of it. We were able to create and reimagine our favourite villains and put our own CND™ spin on the creations to bring them to life.”
– Jan Arnold, co-founder & style director, CND™
The nail designs
Nails were long and many razor-sharp with stiletto tips to convey danger. Bold textures mixed to create the finished looks; including sleek, eel-like skin, reflective metallic fragments and 3D embellishments.
Standout nails included:
- Stolen Hearts by Winnie Huang – Inspired by a villain’s hunger for hearts, sharp shards of gold surrounded a focal heart to portray a love for luxury and menacing nature.
- Gangster’s Talon by Tracey Lee – A dramatic, threatening talon painting in the deep purple Rock Royalty. Inspired by an underwater villain, the underside of the nails were studded with suction cup details; perfect for gathering tragic treasures.
