Oxfordshire-based nail technician, Kellie Underwood of Enchanted Nails By Kellie, has launched a project aiming to offer a little helping hand to people recovering from illness.
Kellie is has revealed that from 2019, she will offer a gel polish manicure free of charge each month. Open to nomination, the treatment will be given to someone going through treatments for serious illnesses, such as cancer or mental illness. The offer also extends to a relative who has also been affected by the process.
“My mum was recently diagnosed with bowel cancer,” reveals Kellie. “She’s been operated on now and we are hopeful she will make a full recovery, but it’s a very scary time. My mum has to have quite a bit of time off work, which she won’t be getting paid for. This experience got me thinking; I can’t cure cancer but what could I do to help those who are?”
Kellie has set up the hashtag #giftofnails to share her journey, but also inspire other technicians. “I’ve had such a positive response from other nail techs from my announcement on Instagram,” smiles Kellie. “Many said they are going to join in and do the same.”
“I feel that we a nail technicians have a gift and our job lifts people’s spirits; appointments give our clients something to look forward to and puts a smile on their face. I feel its our duty to give something back to those who are suffering and going through a hard time.”
