Nail tech creates gender reveal cake manicure

When browsing platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, it’s almost impossible to avoid an extravagant ‘gender reveal’ video.

In the videos where a balloon is popped or a cake is cut in order to reveal the gender of an unborn baby, one American nail tech has taken the trend one step further by creating gender reveal nails. Sherice Hill (@shericedanailtech) is pregnant with her second child and tasked her colleague with creating a flamboyant gender reveal incorporating her passion of nails.

“I wanted to incorporate my love of nails into my gender reveal party that I was hosting,” says Sherice. “I asked my co-worker, Marsha (@da_nail_lady), to create some never-seen-before and off-the-wall gender reveal nails. I gave her free rein to do whatever she wanted and the gender reveal cake on the nail is what she came up with!”

After taking four hours to construct the complete nail design, Marsha decided to create the nails on Sherice’s cousin so that she wouldn’t accidentally ruin the big surprise. The manicure incorporated a miniature cake on the middle fingernail, which housed a tiny coloured smoke bomb, while the other nails saw a combination of pink and blue hues and the words ‘It’s A’ on the ring and index fingers.

In the video that has unsurprisingly gone viral, the cake is set alight before sparks begin to fly and a blue smoke is revealed – announcing that Sherice is having a baby boy.
