Celina Ryden Stop Nail Shaming

Renowned nail tech and influencer, Celina Rydén, has launched a campaign to ‘Stop The Nail Shaming’ on social media and protect the reputation of nail professionals.

In a video on her YouTube channel, she reveals that she has noticed a number a social media groups actively shaming the work of nail professionals, and has taken the issue into her own hands through the launch of the campaign and associated merchandise.

“Social media exposes us to incredible nail artistry, but it’s not a fair representation of the ‘average’ nail work produced by techs on a day-to-day basis.”

“Clients see elaborate nail art and many get the impression that those flawless, perfectly shaped and decorated nails are the norm,” Celina comments. “When they schedule an hour at a nail salon, these nails are what they may expect to get and I have noticed people shaming work by the ‘average’ nail technician.”

The consequence of this, Celina reveals, is that these techs are beginning to lose their passion or become afraid to post their work on social media platforms.

“We need to start to talk about the ‘normal nail tech’ and the reality behind a normal day at work,” she continues. Shaming and bullying is never the right way to go because you never know what someone is going through in their lives. We need to spread love, support and encouragement and start talking about this shaming trend.

“It’s important to educate nail clients more about the reality of the nail industry.”

Celina, who boasts over 200,000 Instagram followers, is encouraging members of the nail industry to talk to their clients and each other and stop the nail shaming; understanding that each professional has their own merits. She has also created merchandise, including t-shirts, mugs and stickers, to help promote the cause.

“My goal is to spread more awareness about this topic and to stand up for the ‘normal nail tech’,” Celina continues. “The shaming culture has to be stopped before it gets worse.”
