Nail industry mourns passing of Steven Rhys Wells

The team at Scratch magazine is saddened by the passing of Steven Rhys Wells, an exceptional nail stylist, creative and educator who was active in the nail industry in the mid 2010s.
Welsh native, Steven, worked as an educator and creative director for Cuccio, and travelled the world to demonstrate nail techniques and share his product knowledge. Renowned for his kindness, skill and sweet temperament, he became a friend of the team at Scratch magazine, and his exceptional concepts and nail skills featured on the covers of the December 2012, April 2014 and May 2016 editions.
Scratch presented Steven with the Shooting Star accolade at the Scratch Stars Awards 2013. “The Shooting Star award is for an individual, team or company that has made a significant impact on the nail sector within a short space of time,” comments Scratch‘s managing editor, Helena Biggs.

“Steven had excited the nail industry with his talent and had such an impact on everyone he met throughout his travels. His creativity, fresh perspectives and willing to support and help fellow professionals deserved to be recognised. He was a truly inspirational individual.”

In 2016, in his role as Cuccio’s creative director, Steven wrote a monthly column for Scratch. An excerpt from one of his published works reveals more about his time in the role:
“I am very fortunate to have an open passport to an array of destinations that many don’t get the chance to experience.
“Since working for Cuccio, my diary has been filled with as many as three international trips each month; from the Far East all the way over to America and Europe in between.
“On each of these trips, I share my experiences and knowledge with techs and distributors and encounter incredible artistry and techniques along the way.”
