Millie Kendall, British Beauty Council CEO & co-founder of Brandstand Communications, received an OBE for services to hair and beauty on 4 May at a Buckingham Palace ceremony.

Kendall, who has over 30 years’ experience creating and marketing beauty brands, was originally awarded an MBE in 2007 for services to the cosmetics industry, and the OBE recognises her continuing passion and commitment to the hair, beauty and cosmetic industries in the UK.

She attended the ceremony alongside her daughter, Lucia, and was presented with her accolade by HRH, the Princess Royal, Anne.

“I’m very honoured to receive this award and see it not just as a personal accolade but as recognition for the hair and beauty industry as a whole, and the incredible contribution it makes not just to our economy but the positive impact it has on many peoples’ lives,” comments Millie Kendall, OBE.

Speaking in January, when her award was announced in the New Year’s Honours List 2022, Kendall commented: “My passion for the beauty industry has never faltered, it makes such an impact on our everyday lives. This award signifies a change in how our sector is viewed, and an appreciation of not just my work but the monumental efforts of The British Beauty Council and its partners in affecting that change.”

Since its launch in 2018, the British Beauty Council has represented the voices and needs of the British beauty industry, championing the sector and pushing for positive change within it. It also launched the Sustainable Beauty Coalition in 2021 to accelerate the sustainability efforts of the sector.

Fellow Brandstand Communications co-founder and journalist, Anna-Marie Solowij, was one of the first to congratulate Millie, and comments: “Millie has worked tirelessly along with her team to ensure the British beauty industry is recognised and valued by government, industry and the public, especially at a time when it faced its greatest challenge, during the pandemic. Her energy, enthusiasm and sheer doggedness are matchless. No wonder they gave her a gong!”
