Meet the 9 year-old who has launched her own nail polish line

Lola Marie may only be nine years old, but she’s already a business owner and entrepreneur in her own right, having launched her nail polish line Lola Marie Polish to increase awareness of her condition, spina bifida.
Spina bifida is a birth defect that occurs when the spine and spinal cord don’t form properly and cause a gap in the spine, according to the NHS.
As if living with this condition wasn’t tough enough for Lola, she also started getting bullied at her school in January 2020.
Lola was taken out of school and transferred to another one in the same county, and started seeing a therapist, who diagnosed Lola with PTSD, depression and anxiety. This therapy would be the beginning of Lola Marie Polish, as Lola had a lightbulb moment when her therapist asked her what makes her happy. Lola immediately knew the answer: getting her nails done.
However, because this was happening at the height of the pandemic, Lola was unable to simply go and get her nails done. Not allowing this to stop her, she decided to make her own, and so Lola Marie Polish was born.
Her brand has over 40 nail polish shades, all of which have empowering and positive names, with the bottles featuring a crown that symbolises Lola’s desire for all women to feel like they are royalty.
Besides raising over $59,000 – enough to buy a wheelchair-accessible van – Lola’s business goals included donating 20% of her proceeds each month to the Casey Cares Foundation, a non-profit that helps critically ill children and their families.
She now has her sights set on helping others with disabilities and taking 100 kids in wheelchairs to Disney World.
