She’s scooped a whopping five Scratch Stars Awards, is a salon and academy owner and has honed enviable experience as an educator. Now, nail tech Paulina Zdrada has turned her hand – and experience – to tool production to support the needs of fellow techs. Enter TNL – aka The Nail Lab UK

“For a number of years I have wanted to release a range of tools that I would be proud to use in my salon and put my name to,” Paulina reveals. “In early 2020, when the pandemic forced lockdowns and business closures, I could shift my focus toward the dream of releasing my own range.”

Conscious not to rush to market with products that wouldn’t withstand the needs of a busy nail tech, Paulina spent most of 2020 designing the shape, style, look and feel of her tool range and testing prototypes.

“As salons started to intermittently open, it gave me the opportunity to properly stress-test the tools in the salon environment; both in my busy Leeds salon and via enlisting some local nail techs to test and provide feedback,” Paulina continues. “The goal was to release tools that would enhance a nail tech’s existing skills and allow them to shine. Until I felt the tools did that, I wasn’t prepared or happy to release them.”

With her partner behind The Nail Lab’s branding, web design and graphics, Paulina has been able to fully focus on the tools and has launched e-files, bits, files, buffers alongside manual tools including cuticle nippers, pushers and decoration tools.

“Tools need to be functional and of high quality, but they are also an accessory,” says Paulina. “Techs are proud of their tools and can match them to the theme of their business, and The Nail Lab offers its manual tools in black and silver. It’s also great for prospective clients to see techs using high quality tools on social media. Such tools should be easy to use, increasing accuracy, speed and safety.”

The Nail Lab’s manual tools are manufactured using Japanese steel, which is durable and can be resharpened.

The plasma coating of the black tools means they can be submerged in disinfecting solution and in an autoclave and the e-file bits are varied; from carbide and diamond to stone and silicone.

The e-file bits are named after flowers; from The Lotus (medium grit) to The Magnolia (fine grit). “The manual tool range has a more cosmopolitan, inclusive theme – with each tool named after a city,” Paulina reveals. Standouts are The London cuticle nippers and The Paris nail art tool, and The Nail Lab prides itself on a speedy processing time; with delivery of one to two days.

the edge

“New releases are in the pipeline and we will continue to listen to our current and prospective customers – as well as our educators and ambassadors – to expand, tweak and improve The Nail Lab range as and when we feel we can produce something that helps raise the bar.”
