Kristine Toce, a London-based nail artist, led the nail team for Vin + Omi’s SS19 presentation for London Fashion Week.
Taking place at one of the grand entrances to St Pancras Station, the show saw a theme of ‘Thought is the new Religion’, challenging the ‘throw away’ nature of fashion. Featuring the contrasting images of pentagrams and poodles, the showcase presented ideas of consumer responsibility and a new age of ecological fashion and fabric, as well as endorsing the need for fun in fashion.
In line with the show’s biodegradable and eco-friendly themes, Kristine created a variety of nail looks featuring bright pasta shapes to create a textured, 3d design. Painted in colours featured in the collection, Kristine spent over 70 hours creating 650 nails for the show.
“We settled on a look featuring pasta to retain the show’s biodegradable themes,” explains Kristine backstage. “I looked at incorporating plants and leaves, but decided on pasta for the shape and texture. Vin and Omi loved the concept as the show looked to use minimal plastic.
“I also use mustard seeds in black and yellow, pearl barley and pepper to add variety. The colours used were inspired by the collection. I saw the looks from the test earlier in the week and was able to pick and match the shades.”
With 60 models, the team worked backstage at the Andaz Hotel on Liverpool Street.
The nail team included:
- Amy Morphey
- Anna Ko
- Anna Pouten
- Chiara Ballisai
- Jasmin Samavati
- Julie Bryan
- Lisa Graves
- Nadia Blanco
- Phylicia Dion
- Sue Gray
“This is the largest eco show to date,” explain the design duo. “We are showcasing many of our different eco textiles and process all with social impact projects attached. The main items in our collection are only made from rPET textiles, fabrics made from our ocean or river clean up schemes. Also on the catwalk is out new plant-based fabrics.
“Our shoes this season are a mash up of previous seasons and shoes destined for landfill. We believe with a bit of a twist, recycling can become fresh and new.”
