Essie has named Queer Eye‘s Jonathan Van Ness as its first ever non-female brand ambassador.
Kicking off pride month, Jonathan announced the partnership via a post on his Instagram profile on 6 June.
“I’m so honoured to announce I’ve teamed up with Essie as their first non-female ambassador in celebration of Pride!” Jonathan revealed in his caption. “For me, polish has always been a form of self-expression. Right now that means the mosaic rainbow mani moment. Wearing it proud!”
Jonathan has been known to rock a rainbow mani, and in the Essie campaign he shows off a custom rainbow manicure that mirrors his signature style of painting only a few nails. A step-by-step for the look worn in his campaign can be found here.
The announcement was met with fans and fellow male polish-wearers celebrating the inclusivity. One Twitter user commented, “I’m showing this to my son, Sam, who was bullied last fall for wearing nail polish to his kindergarten class. THANK YOU!!”

The new partnership is increasing representation and furthering the message that beauty is not an entity only women should feel comfortable enjoying.
