From Coronation Street to cuticles… Georgia May Foote on qualifying as a nail tech

After starring in Coronation Street for five years as Katy Armstrong, Georgia May Foote has now made the move from the cobbles to the salon after qualifying as a nail technician three weeks ago.
Georgia trained at Bace Academy in Manchester, completing a gel polish and an acrylic course after always being a lover of having her nails done herself.
“I have always loved having my nails done. For years I have watched meticulously how the nail tech has done my nails and have always walked away wishing I could do them! I am a very creative individual and felt like this is something that I could really put my all in to,” revealed Georgia.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic began, actors like Georgia have had a lot of down time in between jobs as restrictions have seriously affected the industry.
“I feel at the age of 30 it was the best time to throw myself into a new skill and business that will keep me busy when needed. I feel like it is also very good for my mental health. Not only to make myself feel better to but to help others feel better too in such a crazy time.”
While acting and nail services are extremely different to each other, Georgia found some similarities between her two careers as well as some challenges.
“I think patience is something we learn a lot of as actors and that is definitely needed in the nail industry, so those are great similarities. Also we are really good at socialising with people. However, trying to socialise and concentrate intensely is something I have found a challenge! But I believe every challenge can be overcome with practice!” continued Georgia.
However, Georgia has no intention of quitting her career as an actress and plans to balance her time between working as an actress and a nail technician.
“I think working as a nail technician is perfect for me alongside my acting career as I have learnt a skill I can use forever! It will fit in perfect around acting jobs and it keeps those creative juices going which I think is really important!”
From July, Georgia will be working from the salon Beaut in Whitefield, Manchester. As a regular client there herself, Georgia is honoured to be joining the team, which is also owned by the founder of where she trained.
