Vodex 1200x800

Help keep hygiene levels tip-top on your return to work with a fume and dust extraction unit from Vodex.

The company, founded in 2011, has a mission ‘to protect people and products at work’ and ‘ensure that all clients are performing at the top of their industry in a safe working environment’.

In accordance with the British Beauty Council ‘return to work’ guidelines for nail technicians, ‘Nail technicians are to have an efficient desk-top or ‘at source’ dust capture to the side of their station. These should be cleaned frequently, strictly following manufacturer instructions.’

Spearheaded by Paul Riddick, who has over 30 years’ experience in extraction products, and Poala Taylor-Riddick, Vodex has provided solutions for big-name clients such as the NHS and Rolls Royce and offer options for the beauty sector with the SalonAIR brand.

Poala’s daughters, Parris-Emily and Natasia-Louise, who have since joined the business, reveal: “Dust from nail filing and fumes from solvents such as acetone can cause damage to the lungs or can result in health conditions such as occupational asthma.

“Investment in a proper extraction system that protects your breathing zone and filters out local airborne dusts and chemical vapours during nail treatments is essential.”

How an extraction system works

“Fine dust particles that are airborne are inhaled by the lungs and some of these particles are so small they can get lodged in the fine tubules of the lungs,” explains Parris-Emily.

“A proper extraction system, such as the SalonAIR unit, captures the fine dust and vapours, and these are pulled into the filter system where they are removed, allowing the filtered, clean air to be re-circulated back into the workspace.”

Vodex offers the following popular solutions for nail technicians:

SalonAIR 1001 Unit

This unit can be positioned next to the nail desk and its moveable arm with suction head directed towards the nail service.

With high suction capability and low noise, the SalonAIR uses a multi-layered filter cell system to capture the dust and odour, filter and return clean air into the salon. The filters must be replaced as and when required.

Mobile and compact, this unit comes with a speed/remote controller and a range of capture accessories in the form of a stay put bamboo arm or the FileOWAY.

Vodex FileOWAY II

This powder coated steel capture box is a stylish and portable solution to remove the airborne dust and fumes created by nail applications and treatments. It sits atop the nail desk and can be connected to the SalonAIR unit.

The client places their hand on the FileOWAY and any dust generated by the nail treatment as the tech works is drawn down through the grille and into the collection drawer.

The filtered extraction system connected to the FileOWAY takes the light, fine and small breathable dust away, filters it and passes the cleaned air back into the workspace. The heavier dust is collected in the capture tray.
