Hey Scratch readers!

This week’s theme for the Dancing On Ice performances was musicals! There is no better theme for me as I love a good old musical. This week I had my assistant @thehouseofbeauty_brentwood with me. We really had to get our creative juices flowing in order to bring you incredible nail art to fit themes such as Cats, Dream Girls and The Wizard Of Oz to name a few.

So, here are a few of my favourite looks from the week and how I achieved them.

Vanessa Bauer (professional skater):
Vanessa and Perri Kiely were dancing to a song from The Lion King. Of course the hair, make-up and costume was heaving focused on the film and this is where my inspiration for the nail look came from. I created a tribal design using shades found in the costumes. We wanted to go super pointy for this look to replicate the long claws of a lion. We of course asked Vanessa if this was practical for her and she loved the idea. To do this, I sculpted a full set of enhancements using The Gel Bottle Inc Forms and GelPot in Clear. For the tribal print I used The Gel Bottle Inc in African Sunset as a base, which matched her costume perfectly and the colour name was spot on! I then used muted tones mixed with black, white, some brights and, of course, a touch of glitter (it is Dancing On Ice, after all). I created overlapping semi circles and dots using The Gel Bottle Inc in Vegas, Tiger, Jet Black, Heartless, Purple Margarita and Blue Steel. I was so happy with this look because it worked so well. I just hope she didn’t scratch poor Perri with her new claws!

Libby Clegg (celebrity):
This performance was inspired by Cats! Very much like Vanessa’s nails, we wanted to replicate cat claws so enhanced the nail using the same method as above. I applied The Gel Bottle Inc in Jet Black, leaving a semi circle shape at the cuticle. First, I applied a black cuff by the cuticle and then applied the rest of the colour on the tip, followed by The Gel Bottle Inc Matte Top Coat. I would have liked for every nail to feature the white detailing that you see (giving the illusion of a cat’s eye) but unfortunately time wasn’t on our side. Instead, I applied this just to the ring fingers using The Gel Bottle Inc White 3D Painting Gel and used the Extreme Shine Top Coat to ensure it stood out.

Maura Higgins (celebrity):
There is something so gorgeous about a simple nail design. For Maura, I created just that by applying The Gel Bottle Inc in Marshmallow as a base shade with Vegas, creating a gold glitter ombré at the tip. I added a tiny amount of loose glitter to really make them pop!

Here is a breakdown on the products we used for the remaining Dancing On Ice cast members:
