Maddy Rooke, celebrity nail technician, reveals the backstage antics and nail looks from ITV’s Dancing On Ice…
Hi Scratch readers!
The theme for Dancing On Ice – Week 3 was fairytales, and unicorns, mermaids and evil queens all featured. Actress and celebrity contestant, Jane Danson, wore a lovely ombré nail design with iridescent glitter. Here’s how to create it:
Step 1 Prep well. Tidy the cuticles and lightly buff the natural nail before using Gellux Prep + Wipe to cleanse, ready for gel polish application.
Step 2 Apply a layer of the Gellux Clear Top + Base Coat and cure for one minute using the Gellux Express LED Lamp.
Step 3 Gather your chosen gel polish colours for your ombré and put them in order. I ensured that the colours closest to each other went next to each other. Therefore, I started with pink, then lilac, then blue and then green. Use your first shade: mine , apply one thin coat over half of the nail and the use your transition pink shade (Gellux in Cherry Blossom) on the other half of the nail. Using your striping brush, wiggle it down the middle of two colours, blend and set. Repeat this as many times as necessary to get a smooth transition – however you will only want to do this a maximum of three times!
TOP TIP: apply a small blob of your chosen colours on a piece of foil so you can dip your striping brush in when needed.
Step 4 On the next nail, apply the last shade applied first and then your other chosen shade, mine was Gellux Mini in Bon Bon so on and so forth. To complete the look, I then used Gellux Mini in Stormy and blue and yellow hues.
Step 5 Using a fan brush, apply the Daily Charm Aurora Glitter over the entire nail and brush down.
Step 6 Apply the Gellux Clear Top + Base Coat twice to ensure glitter is encapsulated well and doesn’t feel rough – don’t forget to seal the edges!
It’s so simple so give it a try. Share your pics on Instagram tagging #ShowScratch and my account, @nails_by_mads! I can’t wait to see your ombré looks.
