Coronavirus: Beauty businesses in London & South East to close under Tier 4 restrictions

Prime minister, Boris Johnson, has today (19 Dec) announced that Tier 4 rules will be introduced in some areas of England following a surge in coronavirus cases.
In a news conference at 4pm alongside England’s chief medical officer, Chris Whitty, and chief scientific adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance, the PM explained that a new variant of Covid-19 is spreading more quickly than previous strains, and the relaxation of rules over Christmas risk offsetting the benefits of the coronavirus vaccine rollout.
Areas in Tier 4, which so far include London and the south east, will be subject to former national lockdown rules, which include the closure of non-essential retail and personal care businesses – including hair, beauty and nail businesses.
Johnson said the rules will come into force from the morning of Sunday 20 December and be reviewed after two weeks.
Indoor leisure such as gyms and swimming pools will be shut, as well as indoor entertainment such as cinemas and bowling alleys will be shut.
Other rules include working from home if you can and not entering or leaving Tier 4 areas or staying overnight away from home.
The following areas will be under tier 4:
- Kent
- Buckinghamshire
- Berkshire
- Surrey (excluding Waverley)
- The boroughs of Gosport, Havant, Portsmouth, Rother and Hastings
- All 32 London boroughs and the city of London.
- Bedford
- Central Bedfordshire
- Milton Keynes
- Luton
- Peterborough
- Hertfordshire
- Essex (excluding Colchester, Uttlesford and Tendring)
