Bradford has been named the hair and beauty capital of the UK due to research conducted by Direct Line for Business.
Home to a whopping 1,618 hair and beauty businesses, there is one for every 211 Bradford residents. Nottingham came in second, with one hair and beauty business for every 276 residents.
As well as this, with rising consumer demand – most notably in the male grooming sector – last year (2017) saw a total of 287,000 professionals working the UK hair and beauty industry: a 17,000 (16%) increase since 2015.
“The hair and beauty industry continues to have a positive impact on the country’s economy, with growth particularly in the male grooming sector,” – Carly Menken, Direct Line for Business.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, London has the highest overall number of business operating within the industry with over 14,000, but the capital doesn’t make the top 10 list for businesses per head due to it’s large population.
“The hair and beauty industry continues to have a positive impact on the country’s economy, with growth particularly in the male grooming sector,” says Carly Menken, from Direct Line for Business. “This is thanks to celebrities such as David Beckham and Ryan Reynolds who have made it popular and acceptable for men to have a beautifying regime. Companies within the industry have worked hard and executed business plans well to ensure they broaden their offerings to appeal to both male and female customers.
“It’s great news for employment, too, as businesses are required to increase their staffing levels to cope with demand. However, as companies expand it is vital they have flexible insurance to cover them as they grow.”
