Insurance provider, Associated Beauty Therapists (ABT), has allowed for online courses to be ‘acceptable for insurance purposes’.

This will allow ABT accredited members to deliver accredited live education via online channels, including Skype, Facetime, Zoom or similar.

Dave Horton, director of ABT

“At ABT, we know how important it is to work together during these difficult times, and therefore we very quickly negotiated with our insurance partners at Zurich Insurance plc to allow for online and digital courses to be acceptable for insurance purposes,” comments Dave Horton, director of ABT, in a statement.

“For current and new ABT accredited members, we have started taking applications so our clients can, for a short period of time be permitted to deliver your courses, and assessments, via the internet – Skype, Facetime, Zoom or similar. Applications must be received prior to promotion of courses.

“Regarding the courses, these can be taught through live sessions and assessments can also be done in this way. Currently these must be live sessions and not recordings.

“From an ABT perspective, we are currently treating the qualification gained, in the same way as we would if it had been obtained via conventional face-to-face learning so not to disadvantage the client in any way in the future.”

Trainers

“ABT will endeavour to be considerate to all different situations so that we can best assist our accredited course providers without compromising standards. We are providing new ‘digital accreditation packs to successful courses, promoting via our sister site at www.beautyandhairdressing.co.uk, promoting via newsletters and, where required, amending insurance paperwork to allow for the digital learning option.”

Students

“For ABT members who are thinking of doing an online course and expanding their knowledge base, please check that it has been ABT Online Approved beforehand and carries the ABT Accredited ‘online’ logo that we are providing to all successful applications before doing the course. Only these courses are acceptable, no other online courses are permitted at this time we are afraid.

“We understand that this is a very big step into the unknown, and we endeavour to maintain high standards while allowing distance learning solutions. Clearly, this is a decision made solely on the impact of Covid-19 on our clients and we are looking at each course on a case-by-case basis.

“The feedback and comments we have had from the industry have been phenomenally supportive, and we are treading very carefully through this whole temporary process.

“It is important to remember that ABT Accreditation is used for internal insurance purposes only and is not a national framework or a recognised qualification; each body or company will have their own criteria. The purpose of accreditation is to determine whether a course is insurable by ABT.”
