A taste of Tokyo with OPI

Opi Tokyo 2

Swanky Japanese venue, Sake No Hana, London, played host to a colourful event to commemorate the launch of OPI’s spring/summer 2019 nail colour collection, Tokyo.

Cherry blossom towered above my head, with OPI bottles tied to its branches for a quirky touch. A neon light in the shape of an OPI bottle was a fun talking point – but the star of the show was the sushi bar-style conveyor belt, with each of the 12 shades from the collection on plinths revolving around as attendees watched.

There was also a vending machine on which guests answered questions via touchscreen about their favourite Japanese food and key personality traits before the machine delivered a box featuring four shades from the collection to suit.

Three manicurists from Secret Spa were on hand to paint the nails of attendees with Tokyo shades, and I opted for the purpley-pink Arigato ‘From Tokyo’ hue. As my top coat was applied, I spotted a familiar face – Robbie Tomkins, session stylist and Scratch columnist. While I supped on a cocktail from a quirky lightbulb-shaped glass and we snacked on black cod, one of the delicacies being handed around by staff, he brought me up to speed on his Fashion Week antics and noted his favourite nail shades from the collection.

Soon after, some more familiar faces entered the bar; session stylists Metta Francis, Michelle Class and Trish Lomax.

A fab event, guests really got a taste of the influences behind the collection – and it was a great opportunity to catch up with stars of the UK session world.
