2020 Gothic World Nail Champions Revealed

The Gothic World Nails 2020 Championship has announced its winners for its month-long online contest.
The international nail championship, Gothic World was created and hosted from Russia by Elena Shanskaya and Oksana Shwander in association with the Golden Nail Group.
With a mission to invite techs to expand the boundaries of reality, this championship enticed techs to delve into the depths of their secret desires and create nail imagery reflecting their ideas and secret soul movements. Quite the brief, competitors had a month to bring their concepts to life and were invited to enter by 28 October. Global judging then took place over 48 hours, with the scores being delivered to participants on 4 November.
A very affable, active and passionate global judging panel was created by Elena and Oksana, whereby all judges were introduced via a very active Whats App group speaking in both Russia and English languages.
A very interesting aspect to this contest, and one that makes it stand out from the rest, is that it presents seven divisions: student; debut; debut instructor, master; master instructor, VIP; premium. This system beings forth a very detailed entry stage with the premium being the same concept at the new Nailympia Online Division 4, whereby it’s especially designed for champions and veterans.
Well, as if seven divisions wasn’t wild enough, the contest then offered five topics to choose from; Twilight; Gothic World; Fantasy; Witching Hour; Mystic. Alongside this series of great themes, nail artists were able to choose from a mass of sub categories. These comprised; art painting tips; watercolour; mixed media, 3D design, art painting, gel sculpture, inlay design with rhinestones; freestyle design & decoration of items; airbrushing; embedded jewellery; posters; one sculpted nail with design.
Truly a competition menu to race any passionate nail tech’s heart, the Gothic World context did attract masses of entries for judges to score on a 1-10 system.
“I was invited to judge this championship hosted online by Elena Shanskaya,” reveals Alex Fox, Nailympia organiser & Scratch editor-in-chief. “I felt honoured to be asked to participate in this global judging panel of distinguished industry figures. I really enjoyed the comradery of the judge’s group throughout the month as we prepared for the event and meeting new industry artists. I also loved my judging criteria ‘complexity’, as it afforded me much analysis and scrutiny. I have been asked to judge a series of online competitions throughout 2020 and I’ve really enjoyed being on this side of nail competitions.”
A gradient system, the contest affords 1st, 2nd, 3rd placements with diplomas, cups and medals and 4th and 5th places being presented diplomas.
Commenting on this first Gothic World global online contest organiser, Elena Shanskaya says, “This brand new championship ran seamlessly with my new partner Oxana Schwander. I’m happy that in this difficult time of the pandemic, I can give nail masters an opportunity to be creative, while supporting each other. I’m delighted to get such super support from industry figures who judged for the event, which I amassed from 20 countries around the globe.
“I love being at the centre of competitive events and enjoy seeing the creativity that springs from them. Competitions give an opportunity for us to understand that life goes on! And this time has been given to not only evaluate our life, but also our creative ideas too.
“I wish all competitors the world over ‘all the best’! I love what I’m creating here – and Gothic World will be back in 2021.”
