How to create the chic OPI nail design on Scratch’s August 2024 cover
Step by Step
OPI’s updated GelColor formula has launched, now featuring Intelli-Gel™ technology, and is shown on Scratch’s August 2024 edition cover. The brand has shared how the fun cover design was created, in the below step-by-step…
Belinda Price, OPI UK&I education & capability manager, comments: “Micro French tips and cuffs are trending, but this design is a fresh take on the looks. It reminds me of a coral-pink and black combination that was popular in the late 1980s, so is the perfect blend of new and retro.”

Step 1
Prep nails. Apply a coat of GelColor Super Base Base Coat and cure for 30 seconds in the OPI Star Light Gel Lamp. Apply a thin coat of Put It In Neutral to the nail. Cure for 30 seconds in the OPI Star Light. Repeat for coverage.
Step 2
Dip a detail brush in Black Onyx/Lady in Black and create an arc starting on one side of the nail, arcing up and back down to the opposite side. Thicken the line at the centre of the arc, tapering thinner at the sides. Flash cure for five seconds.
Step 2
Dip a detail brush in Strawberry Margarita and create a smaller arc under the first, thickening the line at the centre and tapering down to the sides. Flash cure for five seconds.
Step 4
With a detail brush dipped in Black Onyx/Lady in Black, create a small arc at the tip of the nail, widening in the centre. Cure for 30 seconds. Apply a coat of GelColor Super Gloss Top Coat and cure for 30 seconds. Remove gel residue with a nail wipe saturated with N.A.S. 99 Nail Cleansing Solution. Apply ProSpa Nail & Cuticle Oil to the base of each nail and massage in.
