CND™ for Libertine SS19, NYFW

Events & showcases, Spring/Summer

Fashion design house, Libertine, chose the CND™ Design Lab Team once more to create the nail looks for its SS19 showcase at New York Fashion Week.

The collection inspiration

Libertine’s Johnson Hartig drew inspiration from Georgian glass-covered portrait stones and fine needle-point embroidery. The SS19 collection aims to show there is a certain beauty that can only come with age. Resurfacing classics with a modern twist, the collection reflects muted, melancholy pastels with pops of bright bold colour, allowing voyeurs to bask in true craftsmanship in its oldest form, while staying relevant in the now.

“As we head into our ninth season with Johnson and Libertine, we were incredible inspired by his beautiful, slightly melancholy tribute to the antique. The CND™ Design Lab Team has curated nails that perfectly translate this romantic vision.”

– Jan Arnold, co-founder & style director, CND™

The nail designs

Led by nail artist, Heather Reynosa, the CND™ Design Lab Team drew inspiration from Petit Point embroidery, one of the oldest forms of impossibly fine cross stitch needlepoint, for the nails. Antique roses, Victorian pearls, vintage stones, 24k gold frames, aged pastels, monogramed signets and intimate keepsakes all features. They aim to tell an intricate story of a yearning for the past and a thirst for what’s to come.

“Our biggest inspiration was drawn from the romance of the collection; it’s both melancholy yet hopeful. It reminds me of the hope you come away with after a memorial where you can’t help but want to do better with the time you have left.”

– Heather Reynosa, CND™ lead artist

CND VINYLUX™ was used, with key shades including Studio White and Vintage. One of the standout nails was the ‘braided love lock’. In Victorian days, lovers wore ‘tokens of love’; jewellery incorporating hair from their lovers to keep them close. Heather braided fine locks of hair finished with a caviar bead frame on the nail to translate Johnson’s romantic vision.
