WHAT I’M WEARING: Katie Ru, Katie Ru Nail Design

Katie Ru, of Katie Ru Nail Design, wears a red tip fade design with hand painted patterns to create a chic look on an almond nail.
“I created this gorgeous design using The Gel Bottle Inc BIAB in Baby as my base, then applied a red pigment powder on top of the sticky layer, creating an ombre effect as I was blending the powder in with a fluffy make-up brush. After this, I applied a layer of The Gel Bottle Inc’s matte top coat and cured. I also decorated one of my nails with some gorgeous Swarovski crystals. Finally, I created different freehand patterns on each nail using a striper brush and Alexa Kisgyori black gel paint, before sprinkling it with a clear acrylic powder to create a 3D effect, and cured.
“Nail art is truly my passion, so I don’t normally need an occasion to do a funky design like this on myself. All it takes is to get inspiration to do something beautiful, so my own nails are always quite colourful and intricate. I love spending time creating my own looks and recreating designs inspired by other talented nail artists around the world.
“This set was inspired by one of my biggest nail crushes based in Portland, Oregon, USA, and her name is Chichi (@bestnailsclub). Her designs are so amazing, unique and intricate. I fell in love with one of her beautiful creations and gave it my own little twist.
“I loved the whole process of creating this design and it looks gorgeous! I think it’s great for any occasion – or not occasion at all if you follow my example! I would love to recreate this design again and again in different colours and pattern variations as I think it will look amazing.”
