WHAT I’M WEARING: Jade Robinson, JADE: Professional Beauty

Jade Robinson, of JADE: Professional Beauty, wears Mulan-inspired nails in anticipation of the upcoming movie.
“I created my Mulan nails first by infilling my nails with The Gel Bottle Inc BIAB in Teddy. I always like to paint my character nails first as they take the longest amount of time so I started with Mulan using a reference picture from online and hand painting her with all The Gel Bottle Inc gel polishes and my Get Buffed Pro Minnie Nail Art Brush – for these tiny details you need a really small thin brush and I haven’t found one better than this! I always start out with the outline of the face and skin, usually having to custom mix colours to get the perfect skin tone – I even added some pink in the wet gel and blended it out to give her a little blusher!
“Once that’s done, I go in with the facial features curing bit by bit as I go, then finish off with the outlines. I used this same process with Mushu to create his design. I then went and painted the rest of my nails with The Gel Bottle Inc in Diana and, while the second coat was wet, I placed in some small pink dried flowers to give a cherry blossom effect, also putting one in Mulan’s hair as a little hair accessory. I then encapsulated these in BIAB Clear to ensure no lumps and bumps and finished off with Extreme Shine Top Coat.
“My inspiration for these nails was definitely the upcoming Mulan movie. I love Disney and especially incorporating it into my nail art, which I’ve not had the chance to do recently. With the recent events of Covid-19 having an impact on our industry, I thought I would take this time to try and turn a negative situation into a positive one and utilise this time to work on my nail art skills – especially highly detailed characters like this. It’s definitely helped to put my mind to something and it always helps when it’s something you enjoy!
“The thing that I love about this design is that it’s Disney, of course, and also it gives me the opportunity to see how far I’ve come by looking back on other nail designs, which makes me strive to keep practicing and get better again.”
