We want to see what you’re wearing on your nails!
Amanda Byrne, of Divine Nails By Amanda Byrne, wears a stunning emerald, Northern Lights-inspired design.
“I wanted to create a design that was a little different to the last couple of sets I had done on myself. I originally wanted to do a spring theme but I saw a nail design on Instagram that was inspired by the Northern Lights and I fell in love. So I decided to do a Northern Lights-inspired set of nails.
“I started off by sculpting a clear stiletto base using CJP Crystal Glass, so I had a platform to work on. The pinky is a full colour of Glitterbels coloured acrylic in Blue Velvet and a glitter fade of Magpie Beauty Glitter in Delilah and Hyacinth. I achieved this by picking up a small bead of clear acrylic and dipping into the two glitters. Applying at the cuticle and fading up towards the free edge. Then capping the whole nail in clear acrylic.
“The middle finger is an extended nail bed design. I used a cover pink to extend the nail bed, let it set and then filed into a lovely crisp smile line. I wanted the tip to be a little different so decided to do a marble to match the middle finger. I marbled three colours; green, blue and teal, and added a touch of glitter along the smile line before capping.
“The marble design on the middle finger was achieved by picking up all three colours separately, placing on the nail and then swirling the colours with the tip of my acrylic brush. Making sure to work wetter, to enable the colours to blend. Then with my wet acrylic brush I applied Magpies Trixiebelle Dust Flake over the marble and then capped the whole nail.
“The pointer finger is an ombré of the Blue Velvet and Tiffany Teal Glitterbels coloured acrylic. I started with the teal at the free edge and blended towards the cuticle. Applied the Blue Velvet at the cuticle and blended up towards the free edge. I wasn’t too bothered about the blend being perfect as I was going to go over it with glitter. I did the same as I did with the pink and picked up a bead of clear acrylic and dipped into the glitters and hexagon shapes. I then applied them over where the two colours blended and faded them out to the free edge and cuticle, almost in an S shape, then capped the whole nail.
“The thumb was a full coloured nail of Blue Velvet again, like the pinky. Then I applied the Trixiebelle Flakes over the whole nail, then capped in clear acrylic.
“Once I had filed and refined and shaped the nails, I buffed them to a high shine. Then applied my Swarovski Crystals cluster using CJP Gripper.
“I absolutely loved creating these nails and loved the end result. They really do look like the Northern Lights, especially when I move my hands in the light. The iridescent glitters from Magpie Beauty really do give that Auroras Borealis effect. I think my favourite has to be the marble nail though!”
