Kelly Scothorn, of As Pretty As. Nails by Kelly, reveals mix and match looks have been popular with her clients.
“I think this design has been popular as a lot of us, whether we are nail techs or not, can relate to having different nails on each hand, and that it’s ok to be different – particularly in this current climate. I also think the ‘mix and match’ look has been popular for a while and for me, this is something I regularly do – my clients will tell you that! I almost always have different nail designs on each hand.
“I created these nails using Magpie Beauty products. The florals were inspired by the spring/summer season and I’ve seen so many fantastic floral designs out there on social media and wanted to create some of my own. However, I wanted to go a little bit more simple with my design so opted for little flower shapes without any detail. I used Magpie’s Black Betty Gel Colour for the base and wiped away the inhibition layer to achieve a matte surface to work on. I used their White Gel Paint to draw on the flowers using a dotting tool. To create them I added five small dots and dragged the gel paint towards the centre so as to create individual petals – something I found a little easier as I was using my non-dominant hand. I decided against adding a top coat as I quite like the subtle texture it created. For the pink nails, I used Magpie Gel Colour in Good Golly Miss Molly and sugared Magpie Beauty Glitter in April from the Birthstone collection over the top. My intention was to add a top coat but the beautiful shimmery effect achieved by just sugaring was amazing so I kept it there.
“What I love about this design is the fact that they are at total opposite ends in effect and the high contrast of black and white coupled with the iridescent pink shimmer makes them unusual and very different. I also feel it adds to the textured look I was trying to achieve. These nails also bring a bit of fun, sparkle and cheer to these uncertain times and right now, this is definitely what we need.”
