Gemma Wainwright, of Be Gelicious Nails, revealed that bright and beautiful ombré designs are proving as popular as ever with her clients.
“At this time of year, neon ombré is always a popular choice in my salon and, with the temperatures soaring for weeks now in the UK, everyone is getting in the summer spirit; whether they are going abroad or not.
“To create these nails, I firstly sculpted the extensions using iZ Pro Base & Build. I then created this summer ombré look using colours On The Reef and Jungle Fever from the brand new Calgel summer collection, Destination Unknown.
“Blending soak-off gels can be tricky as they are intentionally thicker, so patience is the key when creating this look. Start with your base colour to create the base, then gradually mix the second colour with the base colour, apply and, using the new Fan Blender Brush from Izabelle Hammon Ltd., continue to blend as you go. It usually takes about four to five separate thin layers to achieve the desired look.
“Finish with a building layer of iZ Pro Base & Build and top it off with iZ Touch & Go No Wipe Top Coat. I would always recommend using a UV polish top coat to protect the gel colour from the sun and advise clients to continue this aftercare every few days during the sunny summer months (credit to Lia of Swoon Nails for teaching me this technique!).
“I love this design as it never fails to attract attention and admiration from everyone. You can get adventurous with so many different colours too, taking it from neons in summer, to dark, sultry colours in winter. It’s such an on trend look and never seems to go out of style no matter what the season is!”
