Earth Day 2021

Salon booking service, Treatwell, reveals the importance of sustainability, organic/eco products and ‘being green’ when choosing a hair, beauty or wellness salon and treatments.

For Treatwell, ‘Earth Day’ – 22nd of April –  is about connecting customers with sustainable and eco-friendly salons and treatments, undertaking research* conducted in April 2021, it discovered these key points:

  • ●  A 1/3 of those who actually go to green salons in the UK are Treatwell users, and a few mentioned they’ve found a green salon via the app.
  • ●  Compared to being green in their daily lives and personal care, choosing a green salon takes more effort (1⁄3 claim it’s very difficult). Around half of those who consider ‘being eco-friendly’ extremely important, actually manage to be so in reality. Interestingly, IT & ES claim to be more successful (despite the struggle).
  • ●  One of the reasons why being green in choosing a salon is less important to people compared to when choosing their personal care, could be that personal care is an ongoing/recurring choice – potentially involving a wider choice and low-cost involvement. Whereas, choosing a salon that is green requires more robust research plus considering factors such as cost, location, quality, customer reviews.
  • ●  There are specific treatments that must be done with organic products according to consumers and these do differ by market. The most common ones are hair procedures, hair removal, body treatments, and facials.

Treatwell’s Green At-Home Treatment Tips

Herbal Tea Filters DIY foot bath

Herbal tea filters can be reused to make foot baths, especially when your foot feels tired and fatigued. Just open the tea bags you have already used and immerse them in a basin (or bidet) with warm water.

Best for this DIY -> herbal tea with eucalyptus base. As eucalyptus, in addition to releasing a pleasant scent, is the best remedy to restore health and rest to tired feet.

Used Green Tea Bags = Invigorating Face Mask

  •  Dry (after use) two sachets of green tea.
  • Put in the mixer with 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt and a tablespoon of honey.
  • Mix everything until the mixture is smooth and homogeneous.
  • Distribute it on the face with a light massage and let it act for 15 minutes, then eliminate it with warm water, dab and wipe and then add moisturising cream.
  • Tea bags against sun redness or beard shaving cuts

  • If skin is reddened by the sun or you have some mild burns, you can apply moist tea bags to bring relief to the affected area.
  • Shaving cuts can also be treated with tea bags. Just leave them in the freezer for a couple of minutes and then apply to the affected area for a couple of minutes.
  • Coffee Grounds (or the coffee inside the pods) = Firming body scrub

  • Take 4 tablespoons of coffee grounds and 4 tablespoons of coarse salt &  mix them together.
  • With wet hands (and after rinsing your body) make circular movements throughout the area of the thighs and hips.
  • Massage, but do not rub or you will redden the skin. After 3 minutes rinse with warm water.
  • *Treatwell gathered 794 responses via an online survey in 4 markets and spoke to general hair & beauty consumers (who normally get a professional treatment at least once a year)
