Cosmetify.com, beauty product suppliers, has revealed that less than two-thirds of women say they always remove products before going to bed.

The research exploring beauty hygiene has shown that women in Nottingham who are the worst offenders, with almost one in five admitting to only occasionally taking it off before going to bed. 74% of women in Belfast always take off make-up before going to sleep.

“Although our research shows that for the majority of the country at least 60% of women do always take off their make-up, it’s alarming to see that there’s still such a high proportion who don’t in certain areas,” Isa Lavahun of Cosmetify.com.

“Throughout the day, bacteria builds up on the skin and this, along with oily substances found in a lot of products, can clog pores. That’s why it’s so important to wash your face at the end of the day. Not only will this help to reduce the risk of blemishes and blackheads, it also allows your skin to breath.”

The findings also show that more than 80% don’t clean their brushes on a weekly basis as advised by experts. Those in Manchester are the biggest culprits, with almost a quarter admitting to never doing so, at 23%. Glaswegians take the best care of their brushes, cleaning them every six weeks on average.

“In addition to ensuring you properly take off your make-up before going to bed, care is also needed when it comes to applying products,” explains Isa Lavahun. “Bacteria builds up in the bristles, which can cause acne breakouts.

“Generally, it is advised that brushes are cleaned every week using shampoo and water. Not only will this help keep your face clean, but you’ll also get a much more flawless finish.”
