There’s no place like home…nail art inspo falls from the sky

Sheffield-based nail artist Loi van Nguyen was so inspired by a post created by Scratch’s Alex Fox that he felt compelled to pick up his nail art brushes and paint.
“I saw the photos on both Alex’s Instagram and Facebook accounts and had to create a design from the feeling that was born. The colours and views from the photo series brought back memories of watching the sunset in Vietnam. The design I have put on the nails tells the story of what I’ve missed over the last 18-months. The pandemic has shown me what I’d been taking for granted, as I’ve not seen my family in Vietnam for over two years now. Seeing these photos reminded me that I can’t see or touch them. Life should be simple, and yet during the pandemic it has been far from simple.
“After seeing the colours of the sky I took out my acrylic colour powders and played with shades of yellow, orange, pink, purple and blue to create sunsets and silhouettes on the nails.”
Alex Fox responds, “I captured those images in a three-minute window after seeing the sky in my back garden ignite with this incredible pink ombré. I was arrested by the beauty of the sky, I had to shoot and share it. I did not apply any filters, the sky really was this blazing. I was then so touched to find that my photos had had an emotional impact on Loi van Nguyen. I was so delighted to have been party to his nail art depiction. ”
