The Essex nail tech working over 4 job roles in her salon

Laura’s Nail Boutique in Silver End, Essex, is run by founder, Laura Wragg. She shares her experience working as a one-man band, having to fulfil multiple job roles at the same time…
The home-based tech says: “It is just me in my business. I am a salon owner, nail artist, marketing manager, bank manager and more!”
However, she believes this is what makes her salon unique: “There is only one of me, so you’ll be sure to get a friendly, bespoke service where you are my main focus and will get the exact treatment you want. My clients and I have a cuppa, chat and they leave with pretty nails!”
Laura believes her ability to work on her own terms provides benefits to clients: “They get a 1:1 service tailored to them. They also have the benefit of having me each appointment, so I build a rapport with my clients which they might not get from larger salons, where techs may be more rushed.”
Laura had previously worked from a home salon in her garden, a space she got designed specifically to her preferences. She says: “It officially opened in November 2021 and everyone commented on what a wonderful space it was. It was great to have a space separate from the house and the business gradually started growing.”
However, January 2023 saw the tech move towns, starting her business from scratch on her own. “I relocated, so not only did I have to find a new location for my business, but I had to build my clientele again. I took my first client on in August 2023, and worked out of my kitchen on a mobile desk. I’d wheel in products from the garage as and when I needed them.”
She continues: “In January 2024, my new home salon was finally finished. I can’t tell you the relief and great feeling I had welcoming clients into a warm, relaxing space. It also generated more new clients!”
As for the salon’s aesthetic, the tech went for a pink, gold and glitter colour palette, seeking a ‘calm, peaceful, tranquil and relaxing’ ambience.
Laura’s Nail Boutique offers a variety of services: builder gel overlays and extensions, gel toenails, Footlogix pedicures, IBX treatments and paraffin wax treatments.
“I use Glitterbels, Footlogix and IBX products. I decided on Glitterbels because the product retention is great. It has HEMA-free options, is a UK brand and also has a great range of colours,” Laura explains.
Looking forward, the tech says: “I’d like to continue to attract clients so that I am booked for my opening hours. I’d love to one day be recognised for my work, whether it be me entering competitions, or getting more mentions in Scratch!”
