Scratch catches up with nail tech, Aimee Hamilton, to learn more about her industry journey…
Aimee Hamilton of The Lacquer Lassie initially became interested in nails when she was about 10 or 11 years old, after stumbling across nail art tutorials on YouTube.
“I became hooked,” she says. “I didn’t actually start doing nails until I had a rough year with my mental health in 2017. I took a year out from university to focus on what really made me happy – which was nails! I finally got my acrylic qualification in February 2018.” She is based in Zoe Brown Nail Salon in Corstorphine, Edinburgh, where she works two days a week.
“I would say my signature style is long acrylics with hand painted art and Swarovski crystals,” Aimee explains. “Glitterbels and Valentino Beauty Pure are my go-to acrylic brands and I always use The Gel Bottle for gel polish, BIAB and hard gel. My favourite set of all time has to be either pale pink set with rainbow butterflies or this nude angel set I did on myself.”
Aimee’s goals for this year are to learn how to use an e-file and to sculpt more with forms.
“I really admire Vivian Xue Rahey for her amazing gem stone nails, high jewellery sets and amazing hand painted portraits. I think the highlight of my career so far has been seeing my nails in Scratch and making amazing friends with so many fabulous nail technicians.”
