Habits can play a role in determining our future and achievements. So why do we often cling onto the ones that proffer little to no benefit at all and stay ‘safely’ within our comfort zone? ‘Because‘ I hear you reply, ‘It’s cosy in there‘.

It’s familiar, it’s easier, not nerve-wracking and nothing can go wrong. However, with a new perspective, ask yourself: should you try something new?

Progression in any career and advancement in your skills as a nail technician cannot happen by staying that comfy zone. It’s impossible to advance without moving forward and taking leaps of faith – and, when you do, there’s some awesome pay off, which is heightened the more times you step out. The more you try it, the faster your progression will be.

Trying new systems, techniques or a new nail design you’ve never attempted before will all conspire to help you improve, and improvement equals advancement, which in turn grows confidence pushing you closer towards your goals.

Try to get more ‘comfortable’ with being ‘uncomfortable’. Feel those butterflies in the pit of your stomach and do it anyway. Face the wind, feel the fear, respond with determination and drive. Don’t be afraid to fail, everyone makes mistakes at some point and there’s nothing wrong with mistakes, they are opportunities for learning, growth and trying a new direction. Even something you might think of as a mistake or failure is really you just collecting information or experience that could be rearranged or re-applied in a new way to get a successful outcome next time.

So, pull up the picture of that gorgeous set of nails you’ve been admiring that your nail idol has crafted and when your next client requests a detailed custom set – just go for it!
