Salon in the Spotlight: Bold Salon, Glasgow

Bold by name, bold by nature! Bold Salon in Glasgow is making its mark in the local area owing to the quirky decor and impressive collection of professionals working from its treatment rooms.
“I had been self-employed lash and brow specialist for 21 years under my own business, The i Lounge,” explains owner of Bold Salon, Sarah Manderson. “I had been renting a room in a waxing salon in the city centre of Glasgow for many years, but was outgrowing the limited space I had.
“In March, I decided to move on and find a long-awaited space of my own. In doing this, I wanted to bring along other industry specialists with me – and in three short months, Bold was born!”
In its central location in the Scottish city, the salon is thriving. “We wanted Bold to be Glasgow’s ‘Wild and Wonderful Beauty Hub’,” smiles Sarah. “In other words, a one-stop shop for any beauty treatment you may desire.
“It’s an extremely large salon, with seven beauty rooms, two bathrooms and an entire downstairs dedicated to the Bold Training Academy. The academy is available for any type of beauty education/training program to rent. This is a great opportunity for external educators, from waxing specialists to make-up artists to base themselves from a central location in the heart of Glasgow. There are suitable spaces for any aspect of the industry.”
With the fellow pros Sarah brought in, the salon offers a diverse treatment menu. “All of our therapists at Bold specialise in our own treatments,” Sarah explains.
“I offer ultra line microblading, HD Brows, Russian volume lashes with over 20 years’ experience. Lee’s Lashes offers Russian volume lashes and LVL treatments as well as HD Brows.
“Bold Waxing has two therapists with 27 years combined experience. Specialising in advanced intimate male and female waxing, they can wax anything from eyebrows… down!
“The space is also home to Notorious Nails Glasgow – a mini version of the successful Coatbridge salon. While Southside Aesthetics offers over 25 years in nursing, so Deby’s services range from dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injections to hyperhidrosis injections.
“We call Lindsay our skin geek! Under Epidermis Expert, she offers various skin treatments like derma planing, clinical peels, blackhead extraction and derma pen sessions. While, Shannon Doherty decided to use her skills to become a pro in freelance makeup and is the main MUA in the salon.”
With such a range of treatments available in the salon, Sarah sought out a diverse décor to match. “There isn’t really a main theme!” Sarah laughs. “It sounds so strange when we explain to people, but it really is a place to come and experience for yourself to see what we mean. We wanted it to emulate an Alice in Wonderland type of feel. When you enter the salon, you are greeted with a bright and fresh salon with a fun atmosphere. There is a chic, funky furniture in the waiting area with the dictionary description for the world ‘bold’. The nail station features pops of neon. And of course, the foliage wall catches everyone’s eyes!
“As you make your way to the back end of the salon, we have so many cool wall features to look at – the Trainspotting quote at the makeup waiting area, quirky paint splashes on the three makeup walls, and a patriotic set of angel wings hand painted by the very talented @Devoartrocks on Instagram.
“I am so proud of the salon and how it is looking so far,” Sarah smiles. “Though most of the decor has been completed, we are never really finished adding quirky bits here and there. Our clients love coming in and seeing something new has been added each time they visit!”
