Salon in the Spotlight: The Nail Office, Fife

With almost 17 years’ in the nail industry, Michelle Nelson sought a space of her own to grow her business. Setting up in a bustling business park, The Nail Office opened its doors earlier this year.
“After having my second baby in January, I felt that there was no better time to open my own salon,” smiles Michelle. “My salon is unique; I’m surrounded by offices and hardworking businesspeople. Some of them like to pop in for an appointment during their lunch break or after a long hard day in the office. The location is fantastic; I can offer my clients free parking at all times.”
In its practical set-up, the salon still sees a glamorous décor. “I went for mostly rose gold and white with hints of blacks,” Michelle explains. “I feel it suits my individual style and I think it creates a calm environment for my clients. My colour scheme helped influence the designing of my logo, too.
“I chose my decor carefully as I wanted to give my clients a warm, relaxed and comfortable environment. I think I achieved this through my colour scheme, as it feels very clean but cosy at the same time. The rose gold theme gives the salon a current and trendy feel. I’ve also got a few framed nail-related quotes on one of the walls, too. They sum up my passion for my job so I felt like they should definitely be part of my salon!”
Sharing her love of the job has also push Michelle to pursue teaching. “I’m currently studying for my Award in Education and Teaching qualification and hope to be certified soon,” she smiles. “The future is definitely looking bright.
“The salon also has Erin Lawlor working alongside me. Erin is super ambitious and a flair for nail art.
“The salon specialises in acrylic-based treatments, but I offer my clients all types of nail enhancements acrylic, hard gel, gel polish and both luxury and basic manicures. I also offer lots of nail art, ranging from crystals to stamping and hand painting to design encapsulation.
“Running my own nail salon has always been a dream of mine!”
