Salon in the Spotlight: Sweetcheeks Salon, Shrewsbury
Sweetcheeks Salon, Telford was first established in 2015 by Sophie Williams, who had previously worked as a mobile tech for 12 years. Sophie branched into education in 2019, starting her own training academy, and the Telford salon began to expand.
“I had been thinking about opening a second Sweetcheeks premises prior to lockdown, in the nearby town of Shrewsbury. I saved some of my business grants from lockdown to make this possible once the right premises had come along.”
“In January 2022, I went to view the most amazing two floor building, and I decided to go for it,” Sophie remembers. “I could’ve never even dreamed of my business growing to the size that this premises would allow, as it opened up the possibility of providing up to 20 new jobs for beauticians and hairdressers.
“The building needed a big renovation, and I wanted to keep the theme similar to the sister salon in Telford, but on a much bigger scale. With a budget in mind, I planned to do all the interior design and decorating myself, with help from family and my staff members.”
“The salon took around four months to renovate, and we opened our doors in August 2022. The salon is head-to-toe in pink décor, with matching nail desks and a bespoke 6 foot reception desk from Glitterbels,” she reveals. “We have had sequin walls designed, and all of the marble walls were hand painted by myself.
“As you walk in, we have a large waiting area with love heart signs and wording in relation to the salon.”
“I couldn’t be more fortunate to be able to do a job I absolutely love, surrounded by a fantastic team.”
“We have a large pedicure station to seat three people, where we offer high tea pedicures with Prosecco and cocktails. Our bespoke hair stations are pink leather styling chairs with reclining wash back stations for the ultimate pamper.
“As you go up to the second floor, we have curved treatment beds in pink, made by Salon Bae,” Sophie shares. “These are for our lash techs and brow treatments.”
“We also have a private aesthetics room, where we hold aesthetics clinics to provide treatments such as fillers and anti-wrinkle injections.
“We are also just about to launch our new skincare treatments with the help of Heaven Skincare by Deborah Mitchell,” she notes. “We will be offering Bee Venom and Nettle Venom treatments in both of our salons from December 2022, so we’re constantly expanding and growing.”
