“My little studio is a nail art sanctuary,” smiles Rosie Lynall. “Before I start my own business, I was always so frustrated with the lack of creativity at my local nail salons. This led me to reopen the studio last year after having some time away from nails. What was important for me with providing a unique service was to be in the right area and The Custard Factory fit the bill perfectly. Digbeth is full of creative independent businesses and is super arty.

“I’ve always dreamt of opening a beautiful nail salon full of creative nail technicians. Not only premises and staff, but also expanding on my services and products. I’m constantly wanting to offer more for my clients. I’m looking into hosting nail art one-to-one classes in the near future too as it’s something I’ve been asked to do a few times.

“What makes my studio unique is the nail art that I offer. Everything I do is totally bespoke and one off and to a high quality. I use loads of mixed media in my nail art too, from simple glitters, foils, charms to precious gemstones including real opals and turquoise.

“I offer a simple menu of high-quality gel nail treatments; simple gel manicures and Aprés Gel X service but the nail art is my thing. Super simple to super complicated – I’ll try anything. A popular service I offer is a ‘Mystery Manicure’; the clients let me decide what they’re having on their nails for a reduced cost. The client gets a discounted service and I get to be creative so it’s a win-win!

“I use all cruelty free and vegan products in the studio. Aprés Gel X extensions are the only service I offer now after buying them whilst in LA last year. I’ve recently invested in a large range of polishes from The Gel Bottle Inc too as I love the quality for nail art. NAF Stuff cuticle oils are also used with all treatments and available for clients to purchase.

“The studio is simple and cosy. I’m a big fan of lots of light, white walls and plenty of plants. I chose to keep this studio light and simple with bespoke wooden furniture that my boyfriend made for me, including the polish shelves.

“The studio is really chilled. My clients are usually in with me for around two hours so I wanted to create somewhere that is cosy and feels homely.”
