After spending the last ten years building up here clientele and reputation in the local area, last year Jaz Moger decided  it was around this time fly solo and open my her beauty studio – PAINT by Jaz.

“I wanted something different to renting a space in a hairdressers which I had done previously, so I approached Pearl & Queenie, my favourite local jewellery and accessories shop in St Leonards,” JAz explains. “I asked if they had a spare room for me and to my amazement, they did! In what felt like no time at all, PAINT by Jaz was up in neon lights and I was ready to start ‘painting the town’ from my new beauty hub.

“I started out my beauty career practising treatments on friends in my bedroom back when I was 17 and have always loved that chilled, laid back vibe so that’s the kind of atmosphere that I like to recreate in my studio. A place where it feels like you’re going for a catch up with your BFF but you also get to leave with a cute mani.

“My clients love it as it makes their nail appointment a whole shopping experience. They can have a look round all the nice bits whilst they’re waiting to be called in with me or they can have a look round once their appointment has finished, because trying on rings with a fresh mani makes all the difference. The shop is also situated right opposite St Leonards beach, so we have a pretty amazing sea view!

“I’ve formed some real genuine friendships with clients over the years and money can’t buy that. I’m currently fully booked all the time and struggling to fit everyone in, so I think it will definitely be time to expand soon. This is just the beginning and I’m excited to see what the future holds.”

Offering both lashes and brows, Jaz admits that nails are her main love. “Nail treatments are where I can be most creative,” she says. “I’m a self-confessed perfectionist and pride myself on providing high quality treatments on healthy and natural nails. I think that staying on trend is important and enjoy spending time scrolling though endless fashion apps to see what colours and prints are going to be in each season. I like to express my passion for artistic creations through my work and tailor make designs to suit my client’s individual personalities and life styles.

“The main gel brand I use is Gellux by Salon System. I first trained with Gellux eight years ago. I instantly fell in love with the polish and the longevity of the product and have been using it ever since. Most of my regular clients come in every four weeks for a gel mani and even though there’s regrowth, it’s normally still just as glossy as the day it was applied! I also have a current obsession with Candy Coat’s Bubble Gum Sanitising Spray. If I could have that smell pumped into my room all day long, I would.”

The studio decor was selected ton inspire creativity in Jaz’s clients. “I’m a creative person all round and have always had a keen interested in interiors so when it came to design my beauty studio I couldn’t wait to get started. Putting the room together was like putting a risky outfit or a complicated nail design together. You have a vision and you just have to go for it. Seeing as my brand started on Instagram, I wanted to try and make the room as ‘Instagramable’ as possible. My favourite colour is vintage peachy pink and I’m a big fan of mixing old and new. I’d originally seen the pink tiles in a bathroom pic on Pinterest and just knew I had to incorporate them. The dark, high ceiling feels never ending like a clear night sky and the palm leaf wallpaper adds a sense of calm to the room.

“My aim was to create a space that’s bright and fun, just like my nail art. I like to think that the decor helps my clients bring out their creative side as well as making them feel like they’re tucked away in a tropical oasis – a ‘Paint paradise’.”
