After closing the doors to her high street salon during the first lockdown, Sarah Astles set about creating a new salon in her garden, ready to reopen in July. Now, Sarah works from a pretty pink cabin and hasn’t looked back.

“My husband and I built the cabin ourselves, so it’s been a labour of love from start to finish,” says Sarah. “It’s definitely a reflection of me and my personality. It’s a happy and relaxed space; we have squirrels and an array of birds that come to the feeders in the garden and keep the clients amused during their appointments.

“I feel like its unique as it’s away from the hustle and bustle of buys life. Clients really get to just sit back, relax and can enjoy the outside area during summer months.

“I chose to keep the colour scheme simple and clean so picked two different shade of pinks with bright white furniture and artificial plants to bring the outside into the cabin. It creates an inviting and welcoming atmosphere that my clients love.

“Pink is my favourite colour so I wanted the decor to reflect me and my personality. I also wanted to make my clients feel part of the decor choice so decided to display all the gifts my clients have bought me over the years. The gifts have mostly been unicorn-related! When the clients walked back through the doors after reopening, they loved seeing the items they had bought and it was a good conversation starter.”

As well as an ideal space to greet clients, Sarah is keen to welcome students, too. “I’m currently studying for my AET to become an educator,” she smiles. “Once qualified, the cabin will also become a training school for all aspect of nails that will be ready in the New Year.”

Settled into her new salon, Sarah is proud of the setup. “I wanted to make the salon feel warm and welcoming,” Sarah concludes. “I wanted my clients to feel like they were visiting somewhere special, just for them.”
