Having worked both on a mobile basis and at her kitchen table for the last 10 years, Rosie Doran sought a more permanent basis for her nail business. “When the first lockdown happened, my husband suggested that we use the time wisely and build a summerhouse: a place for my business and client base to grow,” Rosie remembers.
“Having my own nail space was something I’d always dreamed of, but I didn’t know where or what I wanted. Now, my new salon is the best thing that’s happened to my business. I can offer so much more and feel my work has improved so much since opening.”
Set in Rosie’s back garden, the workspace also offers her the chance for a better life balance. “I’m close to my son, Harry, and never miss a thing he’s up too!” she beams. “Not many nail techs near me work from home, so I feel this is something new to the area.”
The salon is chic and modern, with bright detailing everywhere. “I am the girliest girl,” Rosie laughs. “I wanted the ultimate girly space and knew exactly what I wanted. My husband and dad made this vision come true!
“With the salon being in my garden I wanted some foliage to bring the outside in by using plants and having a foliage wall. I’m also obsessed with neon signs, so I knew this would be my main feature.”
The new workspace as brought Rosie a new passion for nails. “It has changed my life for the better,” she says. “I just look out my kitchen window at it and I’m literally filled with butterflies! The decor definitely influences me to be myself – and I think it’s influenced my clients to be bold and brave with nail choices.
“Also, I love having all my nail art and colours to hand. It’s such a treat after 10 years of being mobile and having my car packed with 10 bags of stuff!”
