Emoke Andre, owner of London nail salon, Nails by Emoke, tells Scratch about the unique qualities of the business and its ‘family’ of staff…

Qualifying as a nail technician in 2014, Emoke Andre worked in a salon in London, but always had a bigger goal in mind: to open her own nail business. “After eight years of working there, I felt I had the experience I needed to be my own boss,” Emoke shares. “I started planning my salon in January 2023 and opened its doors in April of that year. I have loved my first year as a nail salon owner and look forward to many more. It has been a dream come true.
“I particularly like chatting with clients, as they feel comfortable enough to tell the staff and I about their lives and we share meaningful conversations,” Emoke continues. Nails by Emoke boasts a team of five: Emoke and two of the techs carry out manicure and pedicure services, then there is a manicure specialist and pedicure specialist. “We are a very good team: like a family,” Emoke smiles. “We enjoy working together and are thankful for the clients who support my small business, so aim to create a relaxing atmosphere for them.”
Emoke has strived to create a calming ambience through the sophisticated design of the salon. “I chose for the space to have a clean look without any harsh colours, and feel that the grey tones add an elegant touch,” she says. “I’ve also added pops of green next to the grey, as they complement each other.”
Nails by Emoke is the only nail salon in its area and is focused on the natural nail. “Our mission is to maintain the health of clients’ nails, and we offer gel polish manicures and pedicures,” Emoke continues. “The most popular product that we use is OPI GelColor. We also use gel polishes from Madam Glam, SuperNail and Artistic Nail Design.”
