Salon in the Spotlight: My Beauty Place, Leeds

After working in numerous salons in her local area, Samantha Kaye set about going solo in her beauty business venture. “I decided it was time to open my own salon,” she smiles. “I was managing a major beauty salon in the city centre of Leeds, owned it for 5 years and employed up to six staff at one point. While it was very successful, as my two children came along I struggled juggling managing the salon, seeing my own clients and family life.”
The solution became apparent and Samantha set about creating the ideal home salon. “I made the decision to covert our garage,” she explains. “I have the perks of owing my own business still but with much more flexibility.
“I feel the unique selling point of My Beauty Place is that clients get a total one-on-one experience,” Samantha adds. “Many clients dislike the intimidation of going into new salons, whereas they know when they visit my salon, they have a total personal experience.
“I’ve been in the beauty industry for over 15 years now and I absolutely love what I do. I hope my clients pick up on this.
“I pride myself in being professional and I wanted my home salon to echo that in the way I’ve furnished it,” Samantha continues. “I didn’t want the standards to drop just because I was working from home; I wanted it to feel modern and clean but feel cosy and comfortable too.
“I’ve kept most of the salon walls white but added the navy and splashes of gold decor to give it a luxurious feel. The salon has a lovely relaxing feel when you come inside.
“First appearances make a massive difference to a new client, so the decor I feel attracts clients straight away. I always have background music and offer clients a drink from the drink station as soon as they arrive. I’m a strong believer in giving clients a nice experience, not just a nice treatment.”
