Aged 32, Lisa Sheehan decided to go back to college in the evenings to study for her level 2 and 3 qualifications in beauty theraoy, after working in childcare for 14 years.
“I loved the idea of making people feel good about themselves and being able to pamper others, and as a mum of two, I always knew I wanted to work for myself so that I could achieve a good work and life balance. With that in mind, my very clever dad built me my garden cabin, and I’ve now been here since 2016 and love every minute of it!”
“My new clients are always really surprised by how professional my home cabin looks. Walking through my garden, I can sometimes tell that they’re not sure what to expect, but when I open the door, I get the ‘ooh this is lovely’ comment.
“I also think that having a 1:1 experience in a home environment, puts my clients at ease. They know it’s a safe space to talk and relax, because of this I have an amazing client base,” she smiles. “I also think that being an almost 40 year old who is quite low maintenance takes away the anxiety and worries that some clients may have when going to a bigger salon environment.”
“My main passion is gel polish and hand painted nail art on natural nails. I also offer Elim pedicures, lash lifts, Dermaplaning, waxing and tinting,” Lisa reveals. “I’m loving the focus on taking manicures back to basics at the moment, so I love being able to offer hand scrubs and butters as extras to any manicure.
“I’ve used Ink London from the word go. They’re so approachable and helpful as a team, and the products never let me down. My clients love the products and so do I.”
“I have made a few decor changes to the cabin over the years, but I’m especially proud of how it’s looking now as I gave it a complete revamp over lockdown.
“Due to being in lockdown, I did it all myself – from putting down laminate, to cutting and putting up wall trims and shelves – something previously I would have had help with, or got someone to do for me. It was real achievement knowing I can do these things myself!”
“I knew I wanted the cabin to look professional yet welcoming, I wanted a clean, natural style, so used pampas grass and wheat in my handmade garland. I kept the colour scheme neutral with little pops of gold,” Lisa enthuses. “I want clients to feel like they are being pampered from the moment they step in the room. It provides a calming environment for me to work in but more importantly, for my clients to have some much needed ‘me time’.”
“I think keeping to this theme allows clients, old and new, to recognise that even though I work at home, I am still very professional as a therapist.”
“In the future I would love to extend the cabin, mainly to accommodate my growing collection of gel polishes,” Lisa laughs. “That being said though, I absolutely love my small, cosy work space.
“I love being able to offer 1:1 appointments, my clients and I get to have a good old natter and set the world to rights. My clients love the fact that when they come to the cabin, my focus is solely on them and I feel happy that I can give them my full time and attention.”
